Did you know they don't check passports anymore when you cross from Austria to Germany? In fact as far as my passport is concerned I am still in Yugoslavia. The landscape on the train to Munich was mainly black trees and white snow. Munich is in Bavaria, so I plan to try Bavarian cream, and if we go to the Black Forest, I will try the cake.
We arrived in the big glossy city of Munich, it was clean cut and made of glass, chrome and blue walls, it is about the size of Victoria in England. WE found a post office and exchanged some money - new currencies excite me! Next we went to the tourist info with a long list of questions, as we have had so many experiences of not being given all the right info. We checked our bags into lockers and made for the Mensa - the University dinning room - where the food should be cheapest. We walked quite a distance. The architecture is nothing to write home about, and had yet to see anything unique. Yet when we saw the university, we could have been in Greece, as they have several buildings designed like temples, with frescoes and the whole shebang.
We were nervous going in as it was packed with students and we didn't know if we were really allowed in. WE waited in a very long cue, and halfway down the line, luckily I asked the guy in front of us where the line was going, and he told us we needed to buy coupons first. So I kept our place while Paz raced off to buy them. We had roast beef, potatoes, veg and a pudding for $2.50. Great value!
Then we went to find the labour office where we could apply for work.
