The Austrian currency is Shillings, and the prices seem to be about the same as Yugoslavia. We were staying in a clean hostel with a lot of nice people and pine bunk beds - firm and large. We have to pay $1 for a shower and the water lasts about 2 minutes, until it turns cold. I was shaving, had done one and a half arm pits, and then the water went cold, but having arrived exhausted and not having slept for a while, I just went straight to bed. Hostel costs $9 a night.
Next morning we had a heavy brown bread, cheese and salami. Food seems pretty cheap. Then we went for a walk about in the city, although it was a Sunday. We crossed the river Inn with snow on both sides, and bare trees with snow balancing on the tops. We entered the old city with a courtyard as it's center, where they used to watch Medieval jousting from the balconies. There is a lot of relief art work and murals on the buildings, and a central balcony with a golden roof. The roads are narrow and cobbled, the houses are also quite narrow and 3 or 4 stories. They are into tall buildings with gables and arches. The snow of course makes everything more beautiful. We found several museums and palaces but they were all closed. We also found a MacDonald's and although I know it is not Austrian, they serve the cheapest and best coffee - $1.30 - filter coffee with cream.
We walked on and saw a church with a tomb and bronze statues of all the dead man's relatives. We returned to the hostel for a spaghetti dinner. The Italians are taking over the world food wise, we see Italian restaurants everywhere. Had an early night.
